On June 14, SSG was awarded the Environmental Initiative of the Year Award by Co–operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC). The annual CMC Awards recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals and organizations in the Canadian co-operative and mutuals sector.

CMC recognized SSG for our work introducing carbon budgeting to municipalities in Canada. Carbon budgets set a cap on how much greenhouse gas emissions a municipality can emit—ever. Using this limit, municipalities set annual carbon caps and integrate them into their decision-making process. The tool helps municipalities align their investments and policies with emissions reduction goals.

Managing Director Colin MacDougall and Business Development and Project Coordinator Vesta Sahatciu accepted the award on behalf of SSG at the gala dinner in Ottawa, Ont.  SSG members are thrilled to be the first recipients of the annual award, which was created by CMC as a part of its growing emphasis on sustainability and climate action.
