Project Overview
SSG developed Canada’s first Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories (GPC) project with our work in Yellowknife. The City has committed to a 20% corporate GHG emissions reduction and a 6% community GHG emissions reduction. The project also followed the Federation for Canadian Municipalities and ICLEI standards. SSG used GHG Proof, our open source land-use energy and emissions modelling tool, and trained Yellowknife staff in its use for future inventories. The City is now able to forecast short and long term energy use and GHG emissions effects, based on information such as potential land-use developments, energy and land-use policies, population growth and macroeconomic trends.
