Client The City of Hamilton
Location Hamilton, Ontario
Schedule October 2019 – November 2020
The City of Hamilton brought SSG on as a consultant to support in the development of the Community Energy Plan (CEP). The CEP will articulate a vision and strategy to meet local energy demand with energy efficiency initiatives, increasing renewable energy projects, enhancing local employment and economic prosperity, and encouraging healthy and complete neighbourhoods.
The CEP will build on existing energy and climate work undertaken by the City, and will align with Hamilton’s community-wide emissions reduction targets of 20% emissions reduction by 2020; 50% emissions reductions by 2030, and 80% emissions reductions by 2050.
The key components of the CEP are to undertake an analysis of energy use and trends to identify key opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy in the community, and across various sectors. The plan will proactively address land-use related energy challenges associated with Hamilton’s population growth. The analysis will be supported by robust community and stakeholder engagement, to ensure that project outcomes align with existing work and community goals.
