Project Overview

SSG was hired by the Capital Regional District to evaluate potential growth scenarios determined by the RSS Policy Briefs. SSG used our open source model GHGProof to develop a GHG baseline, a business as usual scenario and a scenario that achieved a 33% reduction in GHG emissions by 2020 over 2007 levels. To develop the scenarios, we projected the population growth in each of the CRD municipalities onto GIS layers and used both the CRD transportation model and SSG’s transportation model to evaluate the impacts of the potential growth on public transit, VKTs and mode share. We also evaluated the potential for district energy, dwelling type, agricultural production and greenspace in each of the scenarios. The results of the analysis helped inform the direction of the RSS.
